Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have requested a judge to drop the charges of drug trafficking against them, citing their immunity as a foreign head of state. Their attorneys believe that the law prohibits the prosecution of a foreign leader while she is in office outside her country. The court in New York is scheduled to begin the trial of Maduro and his wife in June, following their arrest in Caracas and transfer to the United Kingdom. They have been facing these charges since their detention in January.
