Judge Blocks Trump's Birthright Citizenship Effort
A federal judge in Maryland issued an order blocking the enforcement of a Trump administration decree aimed at limiting the so-called "birth tourism" phenomenon, through which the goal is to reduce the granting of U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States to undocumented foreigners or on temporary visas. The judge justified her decision by ruling the decree unconstitutional, noting that the Supreme Court has confirmed that children born in America are considered citizens by birth. This ruling comes amid legal opposition to Trump's efforts to end the birthright citizenship, which is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, and is part of a broader campaign aimed at reducing illegal immigration.
