Washington, Gulf nations back Iran talks
A joint statement from Washington and Gulf countries reaffirmed their continued negotiations with Iran aimed at reaching a permanent settlement, while supporting stability in Syria and Lebanon. It emphasized the necessity of safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and opposed the imposition of fees or taxes on maritime passages. The statement condemned Iranian attacks in Iraq and called on the Iraqi government to prevent non-governmental armed groups from threatening the countries of the region. Additionally, the Gulf states expressed their support for nation-building initiatives in Syria and for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability. They also underscored the importance of enhancing efforts to rebuild Gaza and supported Palestinian reform measures.
