Egypt and Saudi Arabia delay interconnection until late 2026
Egypt and Saudi Arabia have postponed the commercial operation of their interconnection project until the end of 2026, due to the expected high electricity loads during the summer. It is anticipated that the maximum load will reach around 42,000 MW in August, compared to 39,800 MW last summer. The first phase includes a transfer capacity of up to 1.5 gigawatts. The delay aims to ensure the stability of both networks and meet local needs, alongside implementing expansions worth two billion Egyptian pounds to improve network stability and enhance the capacities of power stations in Taba and the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
