Israel Sets New Conditions for Gaza Deal
Israel has set new conditions in its response to the modified Peace Council document. It rejected the participation of any civilian or security personnel from Hamas in the government institutions, considering this a return to square one. Israel also demanded the disarmament and delivery of all types of weapons, including heavy and light weapons and military materials, and called for the management of this issue to be handed over to the international stability force instead of the national committee or the Palestinian Authority. Hamas and the factions responded clearly by rejecting a reset to the status quo, reaffirming that weapons should only be held by the national committee and that Gaza's administration be handed over to it. Meanwhile, Egyptian and international efforts continue to reach understandings on implementing the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which includes the Israeli army’s withdrawal, opening of crossings, and delivery of aid.
