Childhood and motherhood prevent 13-year-old's marriage in Qena
This article reviews the efforts of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood in thwarting an attempt to marry a 13-year-old girl in Qena Governorate. Coordination was made with the Child Protection Unit in the province to prevent the marriage, which was planned to take place through an informal contract by the family. Investigations confirmed that the girl’s father acknowledged that the marriage had not been consummated before she reached the legal age. Follow-up was conducted regarding the child's situation within her family to ensure the marriage was not carried out. Such actions are considered crimes punishable by law and reflect the state's commitment to protecting children's rights and ensuring their safety from all forms of harm and violence.
