Engineering Industries Member Emphasizes Skills Gap Solution
The industrial sector in Egypt is suffering from a severe shortage of skilled technical workers, a challenge that requires urgent intervention to link technical education with the needs of factories. The main reason for this gap is the disconnect between the outcomes of education and training programs and the demands of the labor market, coupled with the emigration of skilled workers abroad, especially to Turkey and Russia. This crisis is hindering the expansion of factories and the attraction of foreign investments, while also facing cultural challenges and a negative perception of technical education. The solution involves developing the technical education and vocational training system, increasing awareness of the importance of technical professions, shifting training from theoretical to practical within factories, and improving wages and working conditions to retain skilled workers and prevent their migration.
