Guidance on Choosing in Egyptian Baccalaureate
The Ministry of Education in Egypt has begun implementing a system for selecting study tracks for students completing the Thanaweya Amma (baccalaureate) exams. Students choose their majors after the preparatory year in the first year of secondary school, with the actual baccalaureate years starting from the second year of secondary school. The system includes four main tracks: Medicine and Life Sciences, Business, Engineering and Computer Science, as well as Literature and Arts. During the first year of the baccalaureate, students study one specialized subject from their chosen track, and in the second year, they study two specialized subjects that form the core of their future university major. The system offers multiple exam opportunities (four attempts in the second year and two in the third year), with the option to retake exams for a fee. The core subjects include Arabic language, Religious Education, a second foreign language (for the Literature and Arts track), and History as a mandatory subject in the second year of secondary school.
