The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority announced that it has referred the four mobile phone companies to the Public Prosecution for investigation into cases of registering mobile lines under users’ names without their knowledge. This step is part of ongoing efforts to protect users’ rights and safeguard their personal data. The authority has taken urgent regulatory measures, including suspending the sale and activation of new lines, and sending messages to existing users to sign contracts in the name of the actual beneficiary within a specified deadline. It has also expedited the implementation of biometric verification mechanisms. The authority emphasized that any violations will be penalized, and legal and administrative actions will be taken against non-compliant companies to ensure compliance with data protection and prevent tampering in line registration.
