The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in Egypt announced the referral of the four mobile companies to the Public Prosecution due to the registration of mobile phone lines using citizens' data without their knowledge or possession of these lines. This step comes after receiving numerous complaints about lines registered under the names of their owners without their awareness. The Authority conducted investigations and gathered the necessary evidence. The Authority also approved urgent regulatory measures to prevent the recurrence of such violations, including suspending the sale and activation of new lines, sending messages to current users to update their information, and encouraging them to sign new contracts under the actual holder's name. Lines that do not meet the requirements within a specified period will be canceled. Additionally, the Authority emphasized the importance of biometric verification through electronic applications to ensure citizens' rights and protect their data. It also underscored that any violation will be prosecuted through legal procedures, including referring offenders to the Public Prosecution.
