The North Cairo Criminal Court upheld the death sentence against the defendant for the murder of a café owner in Aswan, after his case was referred to the Grand Mufti twice. The court confirmed that the defendant admitted during the investigation to committing the crime, which arose from a dispute over the ownership of an juice shop and escalated into a fight that resulted in the victim's death. During the sessions, evidence such as a video clip capturing the crime was presented, while the defense called for the ruling to be overturned on the grounds of self-defense claims and the absence of malicious intent.
