The Minister of Local Development and Environment announced the pilot operation of the Qena Public Slaughterhouse in Qena Governorate, with a total cost of 28 million Egyptian pounds fully funded by the ministry, as part of the project to develop government slaughterhouses. The slaughterhouse covers an area of 4,900 square meters and has a capacity of 280 cattle and 200 sheep per shift. It includes pens for slaughtering cattle and sheep, an administrative building, and infrastructure and safety equipment such as ventilation systems, fire alarm systems, and surveillance cameras. The ministry aims to establish sustainable operational models in partnership with the private sector to ensure the provision of safe and healthy meat, along with effective asset management to preserve assets and maximize economic returns.
