The Governor of Asyut, Major General Muhammad Alwan, visited the Marghara Monastery on Jabal Qasqam in Al-Qusiyah, one of the most important sites of the Holy Family's journey in Egypt. He began his tour by inspecting the archaeological church where the Holy Family stayed for 185 days, the longest period of their stay in Egypt. He explained that the church is unique because it is the only monastery consecrated by Jesus Christ himself and receives visitors from Egypt and abroad. He also visited the old fortress dating back to the late 6th and early 7th centuries AD and discussed with tourists the significance of the site and its role in promoting religious tourism and attracting millions of visitors annually. He affirmed that the state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, continues to support and develop religious and heritage sites to bolster both domestic and international tourism, focusing on leveraging the historical importance of the location and enhancing tourism development in the governorate.
