Norwegian authorities detained a Russian ship in the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic, at Ukraine's request, with the aim of recovering $4.2 billion from Russia. This amount pertains to Ukrainian energy asset seizures following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, and Russia's refusal to pay the court ruling issued in 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to the detention by likening it to "state terrorism," and criticized Ukraine's call for foreign airlines to avoid flights to Russia, viewing it as undermining peace efforts. The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Norway's ambassador to protest the move.
