Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, and FAO Regional Representative, Abdul Hakim Al-Waer, signed two Memoranda of Understanding to implement two major projects in South Sinai. These initiatives aim to develop the agricultural sector and rural development, as well as establish a national strategy to enhance the olive value chain in Egypt. The first project seeks to empower local communities, especially youth and women, by improving sustainable livelihoods and effectively utilizing natural resources. The second project aims to conduct a comprehensive sector analysis from producer to consumer, providing a developmental framework that includes improving production, industry, and marketing. The goal is to increase productivity and strengthen the competitiveness of olives in local and international markets, in line with political leadership directives to expand agricultural areas for oil-producing varieties.
