Herb Festival Opens
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad, and a number of governors inaugurated the fifth edition of the 2026 Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival at the Agricultural Museum in Dokki. The two-day event is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). Farouk said the sector has opportunities to boost exports and investment. These plants are grown on around 80,000 feddans, and exports of the plants and their products reached $852 million in 2025, compared with about $400 million in previous years. He added that around 85% of some crops’ output is exported as dried herbs, while the ministry aims to improve quality, processing and marketing, and open up new markets.
