First Coptic AI PhD
The Coptic Orthodox Church held a defense of a doctoral dissertation at the papal headquarters in Anba Ruwais, Cairo. The dissertation, by the monk Karas Ava Markos, examined how artificial intelligence applications could help develop the Church’s pastoral, educational, and social work. At the defense, held under the auspices of Pope Tawadros II and lasting about three hours, the researcher was awarded a doctorate in artificial intelligence with an “Excellent with Honors” distinction—in what was described as a first of its kind in the Coptic Church.
