The Associated Press has declared Democratic Senator Mark Warner the winner of a fourth six-year term in the Senate representing Virginia, defeating Republican Bert Mizusawa. His victory was called after polls closed in the state, allowing Democrats to hold the seat as they seek to wrest control of the Senate from Republicans, who entered the election with 53 seats to Democrats’ and their allies’ 47. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to reach a 51-seat majority.
