Cooper Wins NC Senate
Democrat Roy Cooper won the North Carolina Senate seat, defeating Republican Michael Whatley, according to Reuters. Cooper served two terms as the state’s governor and as attorney general, while Whatley chaired the Republican National Committee and was backed by Donald Trump. The win is a gain for Democrats, who needed four net seats to wrest the majority from Republicans, who held 53 seats to the Democrats’ 47, including their independent allies.
