Mayar Othman, who won first place worldwide in the UAE’s Arab Reading Challenge, said her goal in taking part was to raise Egypt’s flag and represent her country in the best possible way—not to win a cash prize. She read 50 books during the competition and said reading opens the door to discovering the world, encourages people to take action, and helps them learn about new things. She added that she was overjoyed when her win was announced, despite having suffered a health setback that nearly kept her from going on stage.
