The first winter storm flooded tents sheltering displaced people in several areas of the Gaza Strip, destroying clothing, blankets and food supplies. In some locations, water reached half a meter deep and mixed with sewage. The Government Media Office said the rain flooded 70,000 tents within 12 hours, causing estimated initial losses of around $3 million. Four structurally damaged homes and dozens of walls also collapsed, causing injuries. Civil Defense said it had received 2,166 distress calls since the storm began, but its crews had been able to respond to only 218 because of the high volume of calls and limited resources.
