Labour MPs caution Burnham on North Sea drilling
Activists and many Labour MPs oppose developing the Rosebank oilfield in the North Sea, citing environmental concerns and the risk of significant CO2 emissions, which could amount to 250 million tonnes over its lifetime. The development is criticised as incompatible with efforts to address climate change amid recent heatwaves and rising wildfires. Supporters argue it could create jobs, but experts say it would have little impact on fuel prices and the North Sea's reserves are mostly depleted.
