Streeting credits defense spend for UK growth
Wes Streeting, the new UK Defence Secretary, emphasized that increased defence spending will be a priority for Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s government, with plans to raise defense expenditure to meet NATO’s 3.5% GDP target by 2035. He highlighted the potential economic benefits of military investment and unveiled a prototype autonomous drone at the Farnborough airshow. Streeting also criticized Israel’s conduct in Gaza and the West Bank, affirming his belief that Israel has fallen short of standards expected of an ally.
