NBA develops innovative smart basketball
The NBA is testing a new smart basketball embedded with a lightweight chip that could be introduced as soon as this season. The technology aims to improve refereeing accuracy for calls like out-of-bounds and goaltending, as well as assist in analyzing shot trajectories. Trials have been conducted in the G League, Summer League, and preseason games without noticeable impact on the players or ball weight.
