Tom Willis returns to demonstrate England's loss
Tom Willis, an English rugby player currently with Bordeaux Bègles in France, chose to transfer there despite being a strong candidate for England's World Cup squad. His decision to leave England-based Saracens for France was driven by personal growth, a desire to be close to family, and the appeal of playing at a top European club. Although he was considered a key player for England, coach Steve Borthwick opted to exclude him from the national team due to his foreign status, with Willis citing understanding of the rules and a conscious choice to leave. Willis's performances in France and during England's 2025 tour showcased his talent, but his absence from the upcoming World Cup highlights the impact of eligibility policies and timing on international selections.
