Trump launches mosquito control effort
U.S. President Donald Trump announced an unusual plan to combat mosquitoes in Washington. He signed an executive order targeting a 90% reduction in certain invasive mosquito species within 60 days, amid an unprecedented outbreak of dengue fever in Florida. The goal is to address mosquito breeding sites using practical and technological methods, with an emphasis on non-chemical approaches and innovation in controlling insect-borne diseases—especially in areas where invasive mosquito species have become dominant. This comes at a time when dengue cases in Florida are rising, along with increasing health concerns about the spread of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks.
