Security tensions have erupted in the Al-Buwaythah area south of Baghdad following a fire on a farmland, which was then followed by the demolition of part of a wall and the detention of four young men by the security forces. The authorities claimed these actions were in response to requests from an investor, despite the lack of proven legitimacy or approved documentation for the investor’s claims. Local residents confirmed that the land is theirs and is part of cultivated agricultural land, warning that converting it into residential projects could threaten desertification and the environment. They called for an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
