Iraqi govt May Extend Salary Cycle
Press reports indicate that the Iraqi government is considering extending the salary payment cycle to 45 days instead of the current system, in an effort to alleviate liquidity pressures and address the cash flow crisis faced by the public finances. Other proposals include improving tax and fee collection mechanisms, as well as exploring options for domestic and external borrowing, aimed at enhancing financial stability and reducing reliance on oil revenues, which are subject to fluctuations in energy markets. The main goal is to find temporary and sustainable solutions to ensure the continuity of public spending, while also emphasizing the need to diversify income sources and restructure expenditures to face long-term challenges.
