Europe heatwave triggers red alert in Italy
The unprecedented heatwave continues across Europe, with record-high temperatures leading to widespread wildfires, especially in France and Spain, as emergency measures are being intensified. In Italy, the government issued a red alert due to the high temperatures posing serious health risks, and the Piedmont region declared a state of emergency due to drought and fire hazards. Similarly, Hungary turned off unnecessary lights in government buildings and closed its main nuclear power plant because of the Dniester River's low water levels, which have affected electricity supplies. Tourists in Bosnia sought refuge in the Vitrenitsa Cave to escape the 40°C heat, as the cave maintains a steady temperature of around 11°C. These measures and warnings highlight the impact of climate change on Europe, with temperatures surpassing historical records and resulting in water shortages and infrastructure strain.
