Washington indicts 11 over green card fraud
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that authorities have charged 11 individuals with conspiracy and fraud aimed at enabling Chinese nationals to obtain U.S. green cards between 2016 and 2026. Evidence indicates that the defendants participated in a large-scale marriage fraud scheme, where more than a thousand people provided services in exchange for payments of up to $100,000. The accused were detained and appeared before a court on August 12. They face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the charges, which relate to conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and facilitating unlawful residence in the United States.
