France plans to deploy 3000+ substitute teachers amid student protests
France Responds to Student Protests with a Plan to Provide Over 3,000 Substitute Teachers to Address the Teaching Staff Shortage. The announcement came after more than 71,000 people participated in demonstrations demanding better conditions in education and increased investment, which resulted in arrests and injuries among police officers. The substitute teacher hiring plan will begin in 114 affected high schools and also includes the recruitment of hundreds of additional staff and the redeployment of some coverage tasks to current teachers. The government has committed to providing extra funding and improving the 2027 budget to support the number of teachers. These steps come amid expanding protests that have involved university students, with calls to increase school funding and improve educational resources.
