Parliament considers amendments to the Universities Law to limit the Board of Trustees' powers and introduce new authorities

During a legislative session on Tuesday, the Jordanian House of Representatives will discuss an amendment to the Universities Law of 2026, aiming to reduce the number of members of the Boards of Trustees from 13 to 9 to enhance efficiency and facilitate more effective decision-making. The amendments also include a new mechanism for selecting the presidents of public universities, whereby the name of the nominated candidate for university president is submitted to the Ministry of Education, which in turn recommends it to the Prime Minister. Additionally, the amendment extends to college and intermediate institutes to support educational development and ensure alignment with the labor market.
