Japan experiences 7.1 magnitude quake
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck southern Japan, causing intense shaking and items to be thrown into the air. The quake resulted in significant damage in Kumamoto City, including cracks in the roads. Authorities issued warnings of a possible tsunami, along with early alerts sent via mobile phones. Residents and tourists began fleeing the affected areas. Japan is located at the intersection of four tectonic plates along the Pacific Ring of Fire, and it experiences frequent strong earthquakes. The last major quake in 2011 triggered devastating tsunamis that claimed the lives of around 18,500 people.
