Houthis Explore Red Sea Vessel Fees
Regional sources have reported that the Houthi movement in Yemen is considering imposing fees on commercial ships passing through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a week after announcing a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. The Houthis aim to normalize the practice of charging fees on international waterways and to increase pressure on the United States, while exempting Chinese vessels, which have expressed support for this arrangement. China is reportedly engaged in direct negotiations with the Houthis to allow its ships to navigate through the area without risk of attack. The timing for the implementation of this measure has not yet been determined.
