US reports loss of Iranian advisors in Iraq
The New York Times reported the killing of approximately 20 Iranian advisors in American airstrikes in Iraq, which targeted specific sites to disrupt the capabilities of Iran-backed militias to launch rockets and drones. These attacks come amid a military escalation between the United States and Iran, in response to drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. The United States has stated that it will not remain silent in the face of these attacks and that its aim is to protect its interests. The strikes resulted in the death and injury of several members of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shabi), amid Iraqi government rejection and warnings of Iranian efforts to escalate tensions in the region.
