Humans Prioritized Over Animals
The article discusses the problem of stray dogs in Jordanian cities and their impact on the safety of residents, amidst the increasing daily scenes of dog chases and bites, and the danger associated with rabies transmission through bites. It explains that the government has adopted a humane approach for years, based on protecting animals through sterilization, vaccination centers, and management. However, the implementation of this strategy has currently been halted due to resource shortages, leaving solutions ready for use but not deployed. The article emphasizes that public safety should now be the top priority, and suggests that the state consider a temporary decision to eliminate stray dogs if the necessary resources to implement an optimal system are unavailable, in order to ensure public safety, with plans to resume the full program later.
