US unclear on Patriot missile production in Ukraine Zelensky urges increased air defenses
The article addresses the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. administration's decision regarding allowing Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles locally. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington is still considering granting a license for missile manufacturing, emphasizing that the system is an exceptional weapon subject to strict oversight. He noted that joint production licenses have so far been limited to Japan and Germany. This came after Ukrainian statements suggesting a tentative approval from Washington, while the U.S. administration maintains a cautious stance, especially in light of increasing Russian attacks and Ukraine's ongoing requests for more air defense systems to bolster its defenses against threats. The statements indicate a divergence in American positions, with Washington adhering to a cautious policy on the export and development of defensive weapons, all while focusing on its primary goal: ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
