Jordan Valley railway assets registered to State Treasury
The Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority announced that all expropriated lands for the railway project will be registered in the name of the state treasury, in order to preserve the sustainability of agricultural production and farmers’ income. The Council of Ministers approved a mechanism for full compensation and land swapping for the expropriated lands, whereby farmers will be compensated either with the value of the lands or through exchange for similar lands. Additionally, 6,000 dunams have been allocated for reclamation in the Jordan Valley area. The total area of lands expropriated for the Aqaba Railway Project and the Potash expansion amounts to less than half a percent of the total agricultural lands in the valley, approximately 1,325 out of 390,000 dunams.
