Israeli Reserve Soldier Oryal Multo Githahon, 24 years old from Karmiel, died by suicide last Thursday, despite not being on active duty. Officials point out that this death highlights how psychological wounds experienced by soldiers—especially after their military service—may not be visible and can lead to serious consequences such as suicide. The statements from officials emphasize the urgent need to provide psychological support and assistance to reserve soldiers after their service, particularly as the wave of suicides among the Israeli military soldiers continues, which is attributed to the mental pressures caused by ongoing wars. Thousands of soldiers suffer from mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, with limited timely access to mental health support and treatment. If the Defense Ministry were to acknowledge that Githahon’s death is connected to his service, his family could be eligible for financial and social assistance.
