Jordan government rejects restaurant name
The Aqaba Directorate of Industry and Commerce refused to register a trade name for a restaurant called "Kheyy and Kheek," despite the project owner obtaining an official letter from the Jordanian Arabic Language Academy confirming that the name is of pure Arabic origin and expresses the meaning of brotherhood. The problem lies in the refusal to accept the name despite the Academy's affirmation of its Arabic roots, which led to the restaurant's opening being delayed by over three months. Authorities continue to verify the standards for approving trade names and are seeking a solution to this issue, which has sparked controversy over language preservation and cultural identity.
