Likud primary ballots close amid expectations of change
The Likud Party primaries in Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, were held to select the party's candidates for the Knesset elections scheduled for October 27. Voter turnout reached 53.5%, approximately 75,000 voters, representing a 10% increase compared to the previous 2022 elections. The competition within the party has been intense, especially regarding Netanyahu’s selection of 10 individuals, which has sparked criticism within the party over these appointments. Polls indicate the party could win about 23 seats out of 120, with expectations of a reshuffling in the candidate list, amid concerns that many current members may not be re-elected. The discussion is focused on the party’s new structure and the power struggles over leadership positions, while Netanyahu faces criticism over his handling of the selection process for these seats.
