Sophie Adino's historic spaceflight
Sofiane Addino, the first French woman to perform a spacewalk outside the International Space Station, carried out a mission lasting six and a half hours aimed at replacing a malfunctioning air system connecting the station to Earth. Addino, 44 years old, is the second European woman to undertake such operations, after Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. Her mission is vital to ensuring continued communication and connectivity between the station and Earth. The mission launched at 12:35 GMT, orbiting at an altitude of approximately 400 kilometers and traveling at a speed of up to 28,000 kilometers per hour. Addino is a prominent figure, emphasizing that the success of extravehicular activities requires comprehensive training, teamwork, and monitoring by a team inside the station. This achievement marks a historic French and European milestone in the field of space exploration.
