The EU Ambassador to Jordan confirmed that the upcoming months will see intensive efforts with the Jordanian government and the Italian side to develop the historic Maqour site, with the goal of protecting its archaeological features, improving its facilities, and enhancing its status as an international tourism destination. The project includes restoring the castle, palace, and churches, as well as strengthening the site's tourism infrastructure, developing visitor experiences, and training local staff in preservation techniques and archaeological research. The collaboration aims to link heritage conservation with sustainable tourism development, with a particular focus on engaging the local community—especially women and young people—to enhance their economic opportunities through the site's development. Work on the project began in October 2025, and efforts are expected to continue through 2028.
