A recent study revealed that subtle changes in the size of the pupil may aid in detecting attention fluctuations in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but they are not currently suitable for a definitive diagnosis of the disorder. The researchers conducted a study involving 50 children in Chile, including 28 diagnosed with ADHD, focusing on tasks related to memory and concentration. The results showed that children with ADHD who were untreated exhibited a greater variation of about 23% in their pupil responses between trials. This increased variability was associated with lower accuracy in memory test responses. Despite the significance of these findings, the researchers emphasized that pupil size is influenced by multiple factors, and therefore, it cannot yet be relied upon as an immediate diagnostic tool.
