The UAE announced that the oil tanker *GEM NO. 2* had been secured and the source of the leak contained. No new leak had been detected, and repairs to the tanker and aerial and maritime monitoring were ongoing. The oil slick was concentrated off Umm Al Quwain and had spread partly to the coasts of Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Sharjah. Pollution levels had declined as containment and cleanup operations continued, including the precautionary closure of some beaches. Authorities confirmed that fish, food and drinking water were safe, and that the measures would not affect water supplies.
