Jordan’s House of Representatives is set to elect its second deputy speaker on Tuesday, amid a fierce contest following a decline in consensus in the election for first deputy speaker. Raed Rabaa Al-Dhthawi is leading the candidates, backed by the Union bloc, centrist parties, and a number of MPs from the Ummah, Mithaq and Mubadara blocs. He faces competition from Mohammad Salameh Al-Ghuwairi and Ibrahim Al-Jbour, while other candidates’ names are also being floated.
