The West Asian Football Federation is considering holding a national teams tournament during the period originally scheduled for the Asian Cup, after the continental tournament in Saudi Arabia was postponed until the end of next year. Secretary-General Khalil Al-Salem said the federation would discuss the proposal and the host venue with its member associations at a virtual meeting on Thursday. Participation would be optional, and countries interested in hosting would submit bids. If approved, the tournament would be the 10th edition. The most recent edition was held in Iraq in 2019.
