Aoun's request to Trump revealed
President Joseph Aoun requested U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting at the White House to extend the presence of UNIFIL forces in South Lebanon for three additional years. The request was based on security, military, and strategic reasons that necessitate their continued presence, especially given the limited capabilities of the Lebanese Army and the local need for the humanitarian and security roles these forces provide. Trump promised to make efforts to fulfill this request, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran and their impact on the region.
