Al-Zaidi calls emergency security meeting
The article addresses the recent escalation in military tensions between Iraq on one side and the United States and Saudi Arabia on the other. This follows airstrikes targeting Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) bases and headquarters, which resulted in casualties and injuries. Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali Falah Al-Zaidy, ordered an urgent meeting of the National Security Council to monitor the developments. Meanwhile, U.S. and Saudi forces denied conducting any attacks on Iraqi sites, describing the incidents as strikes by Iran-backed militias, which have opted for escalation and violated international law. Additionally, there have been reports of exchanges of fire between American and Saudi forces, as well as attacks on PMF facilities. The situation continues to be tense, with repeated warnings against further escalation. Baghdad has reiterated its readiness to cooperate with Iran on arms control issues, amidst ongoing regional attacks and heightened tensions linked to the ongoing conflict in the region.
