Urgent Security Meeting in Baghdad After Saudi and US Strikes
Security tensions in Iraq are escalating following Saudi and American airstrikes targeting sites believed to be affiliated with Iran-backed militias. Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali Al-Zaidi, called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the developments, as the strikes were in response to terrorist attempts targeting vital facilities and energy infrastructure in the Kingdom. US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the airstrikes targeted terrorists connected to militias linked to Iran. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced that it intercepted and destroyed drones targeting oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh, originating from Iraqi territory. A detailed statement regarding the events and the decisions taken to counteract the ongoing military escalation is expected to be issued after the meeting.
